Basketball!

The boys never stop moving! Here are some of the Multisports group playing basketball in the gym. The boys do different sports every day in the Multisports course which is always one of the most popular courses. Of course, sport is one of the best ways for people to communicate with each other.

Growing in Confidence

The boys are growing in confidence.

In the Film group they spent the morning learning and getting used to the equipment and planning their movie which they will be shooting tomorrow. Both Dai and Tomoki are acting as sound and camera crew as well as managers. I can't wait to see how they will get on tomorrow! In the EFL lessons the boys played interactive games to help improve their vocabulary and pronunciation. Kiuchi Sensei also joined in a memory game which made the students laugh.

Both Satoshi and Katsuhiko were brilliant in their industrial design course. The groups were instructed to design a structure made of lolly pop sticks to hold a watermelon. The winners were the group with the highest structure. Satoshi's design of a structure was used by his group and held the watermelon very well!! Reo and Ryo were taken into the countryside to carry on with their vigorous mountain biking.

Splash!

An exciting morning in the outdoor activities course. The group were introduced to raft building and canoeing. Lots of fun and laughter were had but some of the boys fell into the lake. There were still smiles when they got back in their boats. The raft building was great fun. The boys learnt knot tying techniques and it was a great team building (and ice breaking) activity. At the end of the session the teams managed to fit 24 people onto one raft!!!

In The Classroom with Matt Gow Sensei

Some of the students started their English Lessons this morning. It is very exciting for them to be studying English in England! They are taking their lessons in the beautiful Marlborough College Language Centre. In these pictures you can see Matt Gow Sensei teaching the class. A few years ago he visited Japan and Tokai so he knows all about us!

Happy Times

We rounded off the day with a huge game of ‘tag’ which was really just like a great big multi-cultural bundle as players it seemed, leapt on top of each other and raced around with boundless energy. Given the smiles and laughter and the way everyone helped everyone else out it seemed we were all just one big happy, hot, tired team by the end of the game. The day ended just as the skies broke and heavy drops of rain fell on Marlborough for the first time that day at which point everyone went home for supper and a well earned sit down.

Wall Climbing

Once re-energised the boys prepared for their afternoon activities which included multi sport, wall climbing and industrial design. By 5pm all were ready for some tea and a bit of refreshments before starting on their evening activities when all the teenagers from all summer school (and from all over the world too) got together for a game of multi- international dodgeball. The Tokai boys did brilliantly and stood out as ‘the best by far’...

The Leaders, Lottie and Lily

This year, our group is being lead in the first week by Mr Chris Bond, who has been to Marlborough many times in the past and Mr. Kiuchi who is leading a group here for the first year. We are getting a lot of positive feedback from the tutors and the homestay parents. The boys are being very friendly and doing their best in their new environment. The group is also being supported by Lottie Colquhoun who is the Learning Journeys coordinator. Today they were accompanied by a golden labrador named Lily.
